Gary says, “ ‘I’ve had many former teammates (football at Kansas State) comment that “you are the one who stays in touch with us’. It is because they are all important. I take that approach with each new contact from the initial introduction and throughout the entire time I work with them. I have moved to new places of employment, but my contacts with former donors still remain strong. I am just curious about people, which is why I enjoy “cold calling”. It’s not cold when you do homework before the call. It is an opportunity to learn more and ask questions and share similar experiences, places or people. This has been no secret to me, but it is why I have been so successful in working with potential donors. I still have some that did not become donors but have stayed in touch, because they found value in our conversations.”
